To serve as crown counsel, magistrate, legislative and legal draftsman, or in any scheduled post in the Colonial Legal Service as may be required.
During the first tour of service, selected officers will be required, in addition to their legal duties, to s tudy colloquial Cantonese and to pass the first two examinations referred to in General Order No.142(3) 1(a).
£700 for first two years, £760 for third year, then £790 to £940 by £30 annually, then by one of £60 to £1000 and thence by £50 annually to £1150 plus a residential allowance calculated at the rate of 20% of basic salary in excess of £500 but not exceeding a maximum of £100 and subject to reduction by 40% of the amount by which basic salary exceeds £1000.
A barrister on appointment is granted one increment in the scale for every year of practice at the Bar after he attained the age of 25, subject to a maximum of four increments and to the understanding that he remains for 2 years on the initial salary as so fixed.
Salaries are converted for payment in local currency at a rate fixed from time to time by Government. They are at present paid at the rate of 1/3 to $1 so long as the Treasury rate of the dollar based on the average monthly rate of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank remains at or below that rate. A deduction of 4% from salary is made as contribution to the Widows and Orphans' Pensions Scheme.
If Government quarters are provided the officer will be charged 12% of his basic salary for unfurnished or 13% for furnished quarters.
If no quarters are available and if the officer rents a separate tenement, a rent allowance may be paid in accordance with General Orders.

First Class Passage will be provided in accordance with Colonial Regulation No.81.
Three years, all of which will be probationary.
